The Social Services Hospital welcomed a delegation from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), headed by Mr. Burak Yurdakul, the Agency’s Director and General Coordinator in Lebanon, and Eng. Habib Hamza, Director of TİKA’s Tripoli Office. The delegation was received by Dr. Hassan Al-Khatib, President of the Social Services Association, and Eng. Ziad Malak, General Manager of the Hospital.
The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the historic ties between the city of Tripoli and its Ottoman architectural heritage. The delegation members showed particular interest in the Hospital’s historic building, which currently houses the Hospital’s administrative offices and was originally constructed as an Ottoman hospital in 1911–1912 (1330 AH). Their interest reflected a sense of appreciation for, and nostalgia toward, the legacy of previous generations, whose architectural landmarks continue to serve a humanitarian purpose to this day.
The delegation toured various departments of the Hospital, viewing its healthcare facilities and supporting services. Hospital management also briefed the visitors on the healthcare and rehabilitation programs, physiotherapy services, and specialized care provided to older adults and persons with disabilities residing at the Hospital, with the aim of ensuring their dignity, well-being, and comprehensive care. The visit underscored the importance of strengthening humanitarian and development cooperation between the two sides, particularly in light of TİKA’s role in supporting social and healthcare projects. It also opens promising avenues for future partnerships and initiatives aimed at further developing services for the most vulnerable groups and those most in need of care and support.
